Lollapalooza’s 2016 Electronic Lineup

Chicago, IL – Lollapalooza  2016 is on the horizon for Chicagoans and Midwesterners. With more and more electronic artists being added each year, Lolla is fast becoming a staple festival for electronic music fans in the Midwest. There’s still a good amount of time until the festival kicks off on July 28th, but it’s never to early to start planning. In fact, if this is the first time you’re hearing about the event, you’ll definitely have to start planning as you have already missed Ticketpalooza.

March 22nd (aka Ticketpalooza) is the day that comes once every year that you either love or hate. You’re either lucky enough to snag the weekend pass for Lollapalooza or you missed out. That wondrous 5 minute window opens where the tickets suddenly appear (assuming you can make it through), then vanish without a trace. For seasoned veterans of the Chicago festival this ticket grab was the moment you’ve been training for all year. However, for the rest of us it can be an interesting combination of confusion and disappointment.

That said, if you’re looking for a silver lining then you’ve come to the right place. There’s a solid list of names in attendance and we’ve got a bit of an ‘a la carte’ summary below to help you figure out the best options for single-day tickets. For those of you who have been living under a rock (or just don’t follow the festival), Lollapalooza has expanded into a 4 day event this year. It would have been convenient for all your favorite performers to be consolidated into a day or two, but that’s just not how things work. The only big red-flag day that we’re predicting Is that Saturday will be a beast for ticket prices. The Red Hot Chili Peppers will certainly lead to prices flying sky high for (arguably) the best day of the festival.

Thursday is going to be a light day for EDM fans. You’ve got a chance to see Flosstradamus and Excision. No knock on Excision, but we’d be more excited to see a live performance of him as a part of Destroid. The Destroid experience would have been an eye-opener for Lolla attendees. The real sleeper pick of the day is likely Cashmere Cat. She sneaks into the lineup at so many festivals and people really overlook her.

Friday will be a raucous night. With Major Lazer and Griz on deck. This is going to be one of the biggest parties of Lolla without question. Major Lazer is just a party and Griz brings some funk. However, if you’re more of an electronic purist you’ve also got Matin Garrix to look forward to.

Saturday is going to be the biggest night for all you electronic fans. Disclosure, Hardwell, Oliver Heldens. Not much to really cover here other than “if you have a ticket you’re all set.” This will be a big, busy night and you’ll likely have to shell out a ton for tickets on this day.

Sunday has a very interesting line up. I wouldn’t quite say it’s the strongest day by any means, but it looks like there’s a really unique group of performers set to wind down the festival. If you’re looking for a little bit of crazy to end your festival weekend, then you’re in a good place with Die Antwoord and Adventure Club. If you want to something a little more true-to-form trance/electronic then you’ll be right at home with Flume and Seven Lions. Sunday’s big competitive stage will be LCD Soundsystem. If you don’t care about their “reunion tour” then you might get lucky to snag some front row seats to other performers.

Check back as we get a little closer to the festival. We’ll be updating everything once schedules and stages are released. Stay tuned.
