Chicago IL – On November 24th, The Chicago Duo of Tom Evans and Dan Griffith AKA The White Panda officially released their brand new mashup album “The Pawprint.” This marks the 6th album released by the White Panda since they came together in 2009.
I’ve always been a huge fan of White Panda. My first exposure to the group was through a burned CD copy of the “Versus,” album back in 2009. The first track that played was a mix of Deadmau5 and Eminem, “We Made Ghosts N Stuff.” Needless to say, I was hooked on the Panda.
This was right during a time when mashups started to really become a popular movement. Dance music fans were starting to get a feel for artists like Dangermouse (of the Grey Album fame) and GirlTalk. GirlTalk was probably the first mashup artist i had listened to, and probably one of the most famous on the scene. That all changed once the White Panda came along to leave their mark. They turned the young genre on its head. Instead of 50 different songs hectically blended in a three minute track, you had just a handful of songs expertly woven together — you have time to breathe. By limiting the number of songs in a track, White Panda’s mixes seem cleaner and feel clearer; I find that to be a much more enjoyable experience.
I have a great respect for quality mashup artists, and i encourage everyone to check out White Panda. It’s easy to appreciate the level of talent and vision this duo has that allows them to make their songs flow so perfectly. When mashups are done well they are quite the inspiration. As a final note, the White Panda always gives away their music for free, here. You can get any of their albums as a continuous mix, or as separate tracks.
