3LAU Drops First Album, Ultraviolet

February 16th – 3LAU gives everyone a fantastic post-Valentines Day surprise in the form of his first official album, Ultraviolet. The 27 year old producer (Justin Blau), announced the news via twitter with a very casual message:

We caught this shortly after it dropped via a very surprising Spotify notification. Normally these notifications are chalk full of garbage albums that the platform is shoveling (not bitter or anything), but boy was Spotify on target this time.

So what do we think? Well, this is one of the first albums in a long time that we’ve listened to front-to-back without a second thought. It’s a great album, but this really speaks more to how well the tracks flow more than anything else

It’s a definitely a mood departure from the “How you Love me,” days, but we’re pretty happy with the vibe put out by the album. With a number of recognizable vocalists like Emma Hewitt involved throughout, the mid-mellow feel carries well for the current electronic music phase. There are a few higher-energy tracks throughout like Arcana and Fire if you’re looking for festival bangers, but the majority of the tracks don’t carry the same amps that make these heavier tracks stand out. By no means should that be interpreted as a knock on the album, as we honestly would have loved for the title track Ultraviolet to go on forever.

We’re happy to see 3LAU’s progression as a electronic producer and look forward to what’s next. If we haven’t bored you to death with our thoughts, go fire up Spotify and give the Album a listen, here.
