Space Cowboy – Listen to This!

0

I have to give credit where credit is due, so thank you Spotify for this find. It’s not too often that I come across musicians and producers that really get me excited. Some people love the long trance operas, others love the two-minute dub, but sometimes  I just have to listen some euro-style dance. This style has recently involved into more of a pop flair, but that’s due to the traction gained from artists like Cascada (a few years back), LMFAO, and Lady GaGa. Space Cowboy had actually been touring with LMFAO a few years ago on their Party Rock Tour, which now makes a lot of sense and really explains a lot. Dance music in America is starting to step into the spotlight that generic pop music has had a hold on for quite some time, so I feel that Space Cowboy was just a few years early on his album.

Space Cowboy (Nicolas Jean-Pierre Dresti) was definitely a great find. I’m surprised it took so long for me to find this guy because I definitely love his sound. His albums span a few different styles and genres (as do most artists trying to grow), and I guarantee you will find something you like.

He’s been incredibly influential behind the scenes working with Lady Gaga. He’s been known more recently as her DJ for many tracks — more specifically being a co-producer on the album “The Fame.” His influence on the sound for her is evident immediately.  “Poker Face,” and “Just Dance,” are incredibly similar to Space Cowboy’s top songs, and you can really hear the similarities almost immediately. The moment I found out the two were related in music, it made it easier for me to be OK with GaGa.

Space Cowboy also shows up in Gaga’s “Just Dance” music video. He’s DJing during the house party as seen at 1:00 mark here, (he’s the guy in the red shades and the headphones).

Probably my favorite so far has to be Falling Down, from his 2009 Album, “Digital Rock Star.”

So, definitely listen to:

  1. Falling down
  2. I’ma Be Alright (Rent Money)
  3. I came to party
  4. Invisible
  5. Devastated

Let know what you think.  If you aren’t finding something you love in the top 5, take a look at some of his other work. Follow him on Twitter @spacecowboy
